Meet our Staff!

Rosanna McGinnis, Library Director
Rosanna McGinnis made Opelika her home in early 2016 when she accepted the position of Library Director for the City of Opelika at the Lewis Cooper, Jr. Memorial Library. Prior to that, she served as a librarian with Marine Corps Community Services in both Twentynine Palms, California and Okinawa, Japan. After receiving a BA in English from the University of Montevallo, she attended the University of Alabama and completed her Master of Library and Information Studies in 2010. Rosanna has been married to Chris McGinnis since 2004, and together they have four mostly wonderful children. As a military-brat turned military spouse, Rosanna has never lived anywhere for more than four consecutive years and is thrilled to choose Opelika as the place she will root her family.

Laurie Hackney, Assistant Director
Laurie Hackney received a BBA in Management from the University of Montevallo in 2005. She followed that up with an MLIS from the University of Alabama in 2007. After spending her early library days as a page, she tried on a lot of hats before blending her two degrees as the Assistant Director here in Opelika. Her first love are her two pets Bezi and MJ, but she also enjoys crocheting and weight lifting.

Anita Burton, Circulation Specialist
Anita has been employed with the City of Opelika for 29 years. She began working at the Opelika Police Department in 1988 as a Communications Operator and quickly realized that hardback books were a lot more appealing than hardened criminals. In 1989 she began working at Lewis Cooper Jr. Memorial Library as a Library Assistant and in 1997 became the Circulation Specialist. She is currently married to Charlie Burton and together they have 4 children and 6 grandchildren who they simply adore. If you ever want to know how to or how not to get away with murder, she is your girl because true crime novels are her specialty.

Tim Cooper, Children's Specialist
Tim has been a part of the staff at Cooper Memorial Library since 2007 as Children’s Librarian.  He spends his time in the children’s room telling stories or planning the next great children’s program. Helping the young patron find the right book to energize the imagination or engaging a young person in a program makes his work day complete. Technology doesn’t scare him, so learning new skills in computer science is a dare he will accept.   If being a geek was a super power, according to his wife, he would be a super hero. Tim is married to his best friend, Cassie.

Diane Kindred-Heard, Library Assistant III
Diane Kindred-Heard is not only the longest-serving library employee, she is also the longest-serving City of Opelika employee. She has served many roles in the library, but is currently happy to help you in the computer lab.

Karin Lindemann, Library Assistant III
Karin Lindemann has worked at Lewis Cooper Jr. Memorial Library since May of 1990. She has held various positions over the years and is currently enjoying the position of Cataloger. She can be found in the Genealogy Room where she also helps patrons with their quest for ancestral knowledge. She is an avid reader and also does some crocheting, beading, and cross-stitching in her spare time.

Tracsen Hinz, Library Assistant III
Tracsen began working at the library part-time in the Children's area during the summer of 2011. In January 2014, she was promoted to full-time as a part of the Processing/Cataloging team and enjoys her work behind the scenes.
